6 Interdisciplinary Postdoc Positions in the Heidelberg AI Health Innovation Cluster of the Heidelberg Mannheim Health & Life Science Alliance

(Ref-No. 2022-0475)
Apply for a prestigious Postdoctoral position within the «AI Health Innovation Cluster» Postdoc Program.

The «AI Health Innovation Cluster» in the Rhine-Neckar Metropolitan Region combines the excellence and expertise of renowned research and health institutions to foster synergies and to accelerate the existing research potential in modern health sciences. DKFZ, EMBL, the Max Planck Institute for Medical Research, Heidelberg University and the University Clinics Heidelberg and Mannheim as well as the Central Institute for Mental Health have joined forces to promote cutting-edge research for AI applications in medicine and health. The AI Health Innovation Cluster is an activity within the „Heidelberg Mannheim Health & Life Science Alliance“ (https://www.health-life-sciences.de/).
The interdisciplinary Postdoc Program of the cluster promotes outstanding researchers in the field of informatics and AI. The first two cohorts of fellows started in the summer of 2022 and January 2023 respectively. Fellows work on cutting-edge interdisciplinary projects at the interface of AI and medicine. Each project will involve a collaboration between two or more of the partner institutions of the cluster. The program advances the individual postdoctoral careers not only by providing state-of-the-art technical infrastructure and networks, but also by providing individual support towards developing an independent research career. This involves direct integration into project planning and management and supervision of students as well as a tailored mentorship program to further support the postdoctoral researchers on their career path. All fellows and projects receive further support by visionary data, software and ethics & legal competence centers, which complement the core infrastructure of the collaborating institutions.
We look forward to your application, if you can see yourself making a big difference for the use of AI for health and medical research.

We are looking for candidates holding a degree (Master or comparable) in computer science, mathematics, engineering, physics or related quantitative sciences (e.g. bioinformatics or medical informatics). Communication skills and the ability to work in a multidisciplinary international team will be expected. Analytical and software development skills are essential. Experiences with either machine learning and associated software stacks, high-performance computing environments or cloud technologies are beneficial.
These are positions in a research environment that does not require a PhD. Please note that the AIH Cluster does not offer PhD positions. We look forward to receiving your application regardless of whether you wish to pursue a PhD in the future or not.
Application procedure:

The application will be two-stage. In the first stage, please submit your complete application (in English) as one single PDF file named lastname, firstname via our online application portal. This application document should comprise your curriculum vitae, publication list, a one-page statement of research interests, a copy of your degree certificates (originals, transcripts and translations, if applicable) and up to two letters of recommendation. In a second stage, upon invitation, you will have the opportunity to attend a two-day symposium (hybrid format) and to meet the PIs and get to know available projects. If you are recommended by a PI to proceed, you will be invited to present your past research experience in front of a selection panel.

For more information about the AI Health Innovation Cluster, see the project web page ( https://www.aih-cluster.ai/#projects ), where you can also find examples of projects that have already been selected for funding. Candidates who are selected by the committee will be offered employment at the coordinating institution of the respective project. The selection process is coordinated by DKFZ.

A large international community of postdoctoral researchers across the partner institutions
State-of-the-art research facilities and infrastructure
