PhD Position – Institute for Medical Virology

(We are targeting applicants of all genders)

Part time (65%) | initially limited to 36 months | Announcement number: 250-2023

We are seeking a motivated PhD Candidate to join our team, starting from the earliest possible date. You will be part of a collaborative project between the Institute for Medical Virology, the Goethe-University of Frankfurt and the Institute of Virology (Justus-Liebig-University Gießen ). The project is embedded within the LOEWE priority program CoroPan – Human and zoonotic coronaviruses , a research initiative between three pioneering Institutes in the research of emerging viruses. The main goal of the initiative is the development of effective strategies to combat and treat coronaviruses by gaining comprehensive understanding of their molecular biology and pathogenesis.

Your role

Working with infectious material in a BSL3-environment (coronaviruses)
Knockdown and overexpression of RNA binding proteins
Design and testing of potential antivirals
Scientific writing

Who you are

Completed master degree in Biology, Biochemistry or equivalent
Fluent in English, both oral and written
Experience in cell culture and molecular biology
Previous experience with work under S2/S3 conditions is advantageous
Due to legal regulations, a valid proof of measles immunity / measles vaccination is required
